Okay, but only reads 15-digit chips.

Nice little device, but the beep when you turn it on will put some cats off. Only reads new 15-digit numbers, not 9-digit Avid chips. The numbers are small and don't last long so after scanning I would put them under the lamp and take a picture of the number. I will then have a record of it so I can check it carefully and make sure I'm copying the number correctly when I register.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Only available in black

Unfortunately, this device didn't find my pet's chip

Unfortunately, this little device couldn't find my pet's chip (10-digit, standard chip). I tried repeatedly but it never worked. I returned this one, bought the next model from a competitor and after charging found my pet's chip on the first pass. It seems that after reading some other reviews you either get a scanner that works really well or in my case one that doesn't work at all. The unit I bought was an upgrade (about $20 more) and I plan to use it on friendly stray animals to try and get…

Worked great! - Collars, harnesses and leashes

Very happy with this purchase! I'm paranoid if my cats chips were still intact/readable (can't feel any of my cats chips at all) so I bought this for easy checking at home. Immediately out of the box, I was able to turn on the device and scan their chips in a matter of seconds. They have 15-digit PetLink chips and the numbers appear on the screen quickly and accurately. I'm very happy that I'm fine now and I don't have to put the boys in carrier bags and lug them to the vet! I plan to hold on…

Homemade pet scans are best for ID tags

I haven't met any stray animals in my condo yet, but there are endless posts on my local social media with people asking for help to get a found pet to be reunited with her owner. I suspect people don't really know that these devices are available to everyone, not just vets and animal control officers, and you can scan and look up the ID yourself without having to go to a third party. The only downside I see is that the device has to be very close to the transponder chip to generate a signal…

Good value for money Cats

We help with foster and feral cats and it seems we've gotten a lot of stray cats over the years so we thought it would be time to get a scanner to save on vet trips. It works great for what it is. He read our 11 year old dog's chip so we know her chip is 11 and we were impressed with that. He then read our new dog's chip that we had chipped just 2 months ago, both on different types of chips. We just take a picture of the room and go online to verify the number. If you google microchip sites…

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Could have opted for a newer model

That does not work. Complete rubbish

I'm a rescue dog, so it's important to have a working and reliable reader. This reader is the worst and if I could give it a ZERO it would still be too many stars. Unfortunately, when authorities or individuals use this chip reader, pets are lost. If the reader cannot determine that the pet is microchipped, the search for their home is greatly reduced. Worse, the animal can be microchipped, and if the reader doesn't read the chip, the pet can be euthanized instead of being returned home. I have
