Because of the rave reviews Seagate hard drives have had, I've bought several of these drives over the past few years. The first two (80GB drives) I bought worked right out of the box, but I returned them to Seagate for a replacement (after about six weeks and some complaints, they admitted they didn't have a replacement on hand, and sent two 160GB hard drives as replacements) and had no further problems with it. Unfortunately a lightning strike destroyed my computer last summer and I've been struggling to get it back on since. I bought two new Seagate 120GB hard drives again and both of them failed instantly again. I received an RMA for the drives and shipped them to Seagate in early March. I called them in early May to find out why I didn't get a response from them. They told me and their website confirmed they haven't received the hard drives yet. However, I referred them to the UPS website, which confirmed receipt of the hard drives in early March. Drive. I called them to complain that as I am planning to set up a computer in a RAID set I would really prefer suitable hard drives so they said they would send a 250GB spare hard drive for 120GB ( I even gave them my credit card information to make sure they could charge me if I didn't return the 250GB hard drive). A week later I called to find out where my new hard drive was (the only confirmation I received was an email for a 250GB RMA). As usual, I'm referred to a technician who doesn't speak proper English, and after repeating my request about thirteen times, tells me that "Sam" will try to call me within a few hours. Of course I have several complaints. First, I am deeply annoyed by the quality of products that consistently fail right out of the box. Second, I'm sooo tired of communicating with people (in India?) who don't speak or understand English very well. I'm tired of bureaucracy and mismanagement. I'm frustrated because I keep having to pay to send defective parts back to the manufacturer. I'm frustrated that I have to accept "Remanufactured" parts when I've paid good money for NEW ones. And I'm tired of not being able to fix my computer because of poor quality and poor service. Needless to say, I will never, and I mean NEVER, EVER, buy any other Seagate product. If someone gave me one now, I'd probably throw it straight in the trash and not even bother. They're just not worth the trouble. Maybe you have better luck than me with your products and services; If so, then I'm happy for you. However, I assure you that a problem will turn into a nightmare and I strongly recommend that you replace these hard drives with others that are likely to be less problematic, such as a hard drive. B. Western Digital. If I knew then what I know now, I would have bought Raptors instead.
