Ok so I like this stand concept to put my laptop outside when using my telescope to view the camera etc. I've also read other reviews about the weight slip issue. I took a chance, and as soon as it arrived I installed it and put an old Dell E1505 laptop (heavy!) on top of it. Secure enough, even installed tightly, it started like socks and started cracking as the keys went off were pressed. Not scary but enough to be careful. So I want to share a possible quick fix, at least it worked for me. I see that the manufacturing defect is in the friction linings. In theory ? Your job is to put pressure on the hoses as you tighten them. I disassembled each one (careful, there is a nut on the back that pops out easily). I took some shelf casters, thin rubber casters to place non-slip items in drawers, on shelves, etc. Cut out two small squares to fit the face of each friction pad and attach a small dab of CA to each. I waited a few minutes for them to dry a little and not be sticky. Carefully reinsert each tube and press firmly. NOT firm, just gently press until dry. I gave it an hour, made sure the hoses weren't sticking out, and tightened them normally. No more trouble! He held on with more than enough strength. This is it, I don't know how long it will be, but so far so good. Hope this helps someone with the same problem.
