Review on πŸ”§ Tool-Less M.2 SATA to 2.5" SATA Converter Adapter Bracket Case Enclosure - ICY DOCK Ezconvert MB703M2P-B by Mark Marcellus

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good overall, but the compression spring on the top of the drive is a problem

This was an easy way to install a 2.5" drive in a 3.5" bay without changing Having to worry about airflow issues (small drive not offering enough resistance and worried about airflow being affected by hotter 3.5" drives). It still lets in too much air compared to a 3.5" drive in the same bay, but it's not as bad as leaving the bay with just a bare 2.5" drive. He took off a star because I'm concerned about the metal spring that supposedly holds the disc. After about a minute the label on the disc was dented right where the spring rested on top of the disc. Drive Top drive, and not even a load sharing ring anymore - a simple two point press. I think a plastic or metal load balancer would help a lot here. Luckily I'm going to use them "flat" so I don't need that spring to hold my discs in place (the plastic interface connector doesn't need that spring nor the rod that the spring pivots on), so I have I remove the offending spring. They now hold my drives in place by pressing them against the internal connector (they are held horizontally by gravity - I would use something else that doesn't put additional point loads on the top of the drive to hold them when I use it would put them on the side) and I have an easy way to deal with drives used in an existing hot-swap backplane that has numerous 3.5" drives.

Pros
  • Computers and Accessories
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
