Review on 🎩 Unlock the Wonders of Magic with the Melissa & Doug Deluxe Magic Set by Jaie Bobin

Fun for the Right Age

An excellent set. Probably better for a 6 year old. A bit younger and can be too difficult to understand - documentation is not as vivid and descriptive as say a Lego set. Also, performing some tricks requires a lot of manual dexterity practice, which can be intimidating for youngsters. The age of 6-8 years, depending on maturity and mobility, is probably the best. The same goes for the audience: the stunt footage is easy enough for viewers over the age of 9 to understand, so it's not the ideal set for a 10-year-old to pitch the show to their peers. As always, we love that Melissa and Doug's kits aren't full of cheap plastic parts. This is a great introduction to the idea of magic and if your child sticks to it and practices they can actually pull off some neat tricks for their peers. Note that I said "practice" - if your child is used to video games and television, all of which provide incentives, they may not be the type to sit down and "do their homework" by always doing again practicing in front of a mirror days at a time or days. weeks to be able to perform these tricks smoothly. If you need help figuring out some of these tricks, we found them in YouTube videos online. I would recommend that you plan storage ahead of time. The small "magic box" in the kit has no lock and is so small that only a careful packer can fit all the parts in it. Would have been a 5 star rating if the box was a bit larger and came with a latch. So when your child can responsibly stuff everything back into the box, you can just run to the hardware store and attach your own latch to the box for less than a dollar. Otherwise, as with most things, you'll need to bring your own storage container - like a small bowl tub or something.
