Stable, but no brackets!?

I was very happy with my Makita chainsaw but wanted an easy and quick way to get guaranteed square or random angle cuts without the hassle of measuring and marking. So I was very happy when I received it. It fits securely on the Makita rail and is very well made. The locking screw is strong and holds the rail securely. But then I discovered that there are no detents for common angles like 90, 45, or 22.5. The markings are clear and easy to read, but without accurate and secure detents, they can't offer much accuracy over a 55-inch track length. This means that you have to adjust this angle for each series of cuts. Fortunately, this is not difficult and does not take much time. I use a LARGE plastic drawing square for 45, 30, or 60 degree angles. For 90 degree corners, use a sturdy steel angle. That's accurate enough, but I'm still checking the critical cuts as I measure. So I would give this accessory FIVE stars IF it had latches in those all-important overall angles. As such, the guide is quick to apply and works great. Since I mainly use the chainsaw (and thus this guide) for 90 degree angles, I simply set it to 90 degrees after a one-off adjustment. Mafell and Festool corner guides have locking mechanisms. How could Makita do without this crucial feature? Another problem is the lack of written instructions. They only have a sheet of pictograms that don't explain much. Maybe I got a refund and they lost the instructions. OK. If only I wasn't so cheap. I would buy Mafell and that's it. Maybe I'll start investing in Mafell tools after the last of four kids graduate from college. Or go to Hawaii. Hm.
