Good value for money for a budget digital caliper

While not of the quality of high end (expensive) professional calipers, this caliper is an excellent choice for those who require relatively high accuracy at a low price. The all-metal construction is solid (for a caliper) and the ride is reasonably smooth. I use these calipers to make wooden furniture. The specified +/- 0.001 inch absolute accuracy is more than adequate for my needs, and the convenience of easily toggling between metric, decimal, and decimal readings is very helpful. "The resolution with automatic integer conversion of 1/64, 1/32 and 1/16" points is really convenient. I checked absolute accuracy with precise machine calibration blocks and the worst error I measured was 0.0015", which I find very good for my needs but may not be good enough for those working to tight tolerances. I like the screw-on battery cover, which protects the battery compartment from dust. The included LR44 battery (equivalent to A76 or 357A) is available at a great price, so changing batteries is not a problem. The plastic case is good but nothing special, it protects the caliper well and is convenient to use. The stylus set included with the 6" model is a welcome addition and makes the overall purchase even more worthwhile. My only minor complaint is the decimal inch display, which uses two digit sizes. The two digit sizes are ok, but the transition from large to small digits seems strange to me. All integer and 1/10" digits are large, while 1/100, 1/1000, and 1/1000 digits are small. For example, a value of 1.2345" would be 1 and 2 would display as large numbers, while 3, 4, and 5 would appear as smaller numbers.I would prefer all but the least significant numbers to be large for easier reading, and only the least significant ones (in my example 5) are small It took me a while to get used to the 2 large plus 3 small format which I find less intuitive (and harder to read) than the 4 large plus 1 small format, but overall I was so pleased with this mess chieber that I also bought the 8" version and would recommend it to anyone who wants a reasonably priced, good quality, moderately accurate digital caliper.

Pros
  • Good packaging value
Cons
  • Doubtful
