I greatly prefer this stiff but spongy support to the hard plastic orthotics I've tried in the past. I used them to get rid of a case of plantar fasciitis, and continue to use them (for several years now) because they help support my feet at the angle that works for me with a high arch, rather than the angle most shoes come in. Since the arch support is a dense foam, it gives in just the right way, where a hard plastic orthotic does not.I would prefer the full length ones, except that my feet are wide at the toes, and I need all the space I can get in the toe area, hence I get these 3/4 length ones. Each time I put on my shoes, I make sure they are pulled all the way back to the heel. Each new pair of shoes gets a new set. I used to be able to find them at sports stores, but now only at hospital supply pharmacies, and here at Ebay.
