Approximately three (3) weeks old. I wanted to leave a few things before I forget to install this filter. I have a 120 liter fresh water tank. Replacing the Inland Seas Nu-Clear Model 506 pump with a pump installed in the bottom of the aquarium. I'll post the pump brand later. It was ALWAYS difficult to reinstall after cleaning and prevent leakage. I've had a few Fluval filters in the past and have two for much smaller aquariums that I really like. knows. The instructions are pretty clear and very specific with lots of illustrations. It's hard to find, I usually see half-baked instructions with no details and pictures. The only thing I found wrong about the installation instructions is that they say you need two (2) tools, a box cutter and a Phillips screwdriver. You'll find that a utility knife is designed for severing pipes because it's a pipe that you separate into inlet and outlet so you can shape your own length. All of my other Fluval filters are supplied as is so it's important to keep the length as short as possible so there isn't a lot of sag and no dips or loops. The screwdriver is used to tighten the hole clamps. The terminals are regular appliance terminals, but the ones that came with me were slotted, so I needed a regular screwdriver, not a Phillips head. never mind I'm surprised hose clamps are so typical when most other parts are made specifically for the unit. EDIT: Be careful when cutting the pipes! Remember that only the end of the rubber grommet fits the filter connector, while the other cut end fits the tank connectors (inlet and outlet pipes). These bushings ARE glued to the ends of the tubes so they cannot be modified. You can purchase replacement hoses with ends, and some coupling ends only attach to existing hoses sold at Revain. IMPORTANT! -- Now I've read some complaints about the setup they plug in and it runs for a short time and then stops. They keep restarting and the filter just turns itself off after about a minute. It won't work much longer. I ran into the same problem and figured why didn't I pay attention to these comments? I then re-read the instructions and one sentence (which I checked) clearly states that the filter is intentionally turned off after a minute to clean the air, then turned back on after two minutes! So I just waited two minutes and it worked again. works gracefully and smoothly as I expected. The pump is very quiet for its size. The only thing I miss is that the power of water might be a lot slower than my filter setup, but as long as it works it will do its job. A day later the water became clear, the pump works non-stop.
