Start with good wood
First of all, I like the smooth carving of basswood. The way the wood is cut allows for multiple projects. My order was PERFECT for getting into figure planing. My first is a redneck with a floppy hat. It doesn't look like pictures, but that's the point of the exercise. Next order will be 2x2 as I have very large hands and need an extra attachment. Of course, if you need to burn off the wait, it's good to have a kit. I put the knife, sling, and planks in the razor bag. Perfect for just about anything.
