In love with this set!

Love this little set! I recently bought another set https://www.amazon.com/Winsor-Newton-Cotman-Colour-Compact/dp/B00004THXH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472576228&sr=8-1&keywords=cotman+compact+watercolor+ Give watercolor painting a try and I really like it, but it was still a bit more than I wanted to take away. Another bag set https://www.amazon.com/Winsor-Newton-Cotman-Colour-Compact/dp/B00004THXI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472576228&sr=8-1&keywords=cotman%2Bcompact%2Bwatercolor%2BSet is lightweight cheaper which is great but the brush is SMALL. Only detailed work is possible. The best thing about these sets is that all the pans are removable so I can swap out what I want in each set. The basics are repetitive but after purchasing the compact set I felt like I wanted a few different colors although I can mix them. Basically I wanted black, purple and grey. I think these are great paints for those who are just starting out and want something higher quality yet still affordable. They mix well and are a bit short of the LONG way. But I like this set the most because of the water brush! I wasn't sure at first how easy it looks, but it connects easily and securely, the pieces fit together so snugly that the connection doesn't leak even when pushed. Now the tip stays nice and sharp and feels constantly wet, but doesn't lose much water. That means until you squeeze it, if you squeeze too hard, large beads will release over the top. I have found that very light pressure wets the brush without a large drop of water ruining your work. This is my first water brush and I LOVE it. The tip for this is still quite small, but I still prefer to work with the finer details. You can also put the brush in the tray filled with water, and the place for the brush is thought out to the smallest detail. It has inserts that prevent the brush from slipping, so the brush doesn't slide left or right and risk the tip hitting the edge. I also found that the tip is also split which means you can easily rinse the brush out to clean when you get home etc. If I had found this set first I probably would have bought this instead of the compact set. but i like both. The compact set has more mixing areas and a handy thumb hole to hold, which comes in handy when you don't have a flat surface to paint on, and even a small side water bowl (I use it for another mixing point). ). A water brush is also included in the compact set if you want to take it with you. What I like best about this set is that the pans are further apart and fit in the pot holes. The compact set has these little protrusions that seem designed to hold the pans when you press them down, but instead I've found that they either don't do it at all OR the pans fly back out. from the compact completely. So I just leave them alone, but then they stick out and wiggle.

Pros
  • Includes a mixing palette in the lid
Cons
  • Not as thick as the others
