Edited Review: At first I thought it didn't scratch, I read the other reviews and after testing a small area I looked around carefully and all seemed fine. Some time later I could see faint lines that seemed to develop over time and are still barely visible when filled with water. I changed the water and wiped the top of the tank with a soft cloth when the glass cleared there were scratches all over it. I'm so upset that I didn't pay more attention to the other reviews. I went to an aquarium store and bought a Pleco, it works much better and is cheaper! Pros: Strong magnet, I like that it floats not scratches. Cons: It took many, many passes to remove the algae, which I was able to wipe off in one pass with a soft cloth. If it had a different cleaning surface, like a fluffy half velcro, I think that would work great.
