As others have noted, I found this rack a bit tricky to set up. I started and stopped the installation several times. Although I thought I would appreciate the flexibility of having this type of rack that can be easily installed or removed. Any rapid ascent is just a point of failure waiting in the wings. These quick-release fasteners can easily become loose and should be constantly monitored and checked before every ride and on longer rides. Riding up and down the hills of San Francisco I noticed some performance issues with the bike and heard a "click" that sounded like it was coming from the gears. When I stopped I found that one of the bottom mounting clips was loose and that the frame leg was completely disconnected from the bike. The clip hit the spokes of my tires and I was very lucky that it didn't catch on the wheel and cause a catastrophic accident. Each attachment point requires a rubber shunt to maintain tightness. but the rubber shunt is not attached anywhere and was long gone when I discovered the problem. I was able to reattach the rack to the bike, but without the rubber shunt it required maintenance and didn't hold in place. I had to pull it up a few times. At home I made a new shunt out of a piece of rubber. and now I keep that extra "rubber" in my pocket next to the spare tire. in case i run into this problem again. After several rides, putting on and securing this luggage rack. or safe. The rack must be constantly monitored and adjusted. Wicker shelves also feel short and can cause problems with traditional wicker bags. The reflector that comes with this stand basically just sits on a "hook" on the back of the stand. It is not fixed and falls off easily. Also, there doesn't appear to be any way to attach a reflector or light to this attachment point, which seems like a glaring design flaw. I mean there are other places I could attach a flashlight to a bag or higher up on a rack. but the place where the reflector is attached would be the ideal place. When I bought this rack I thought it would be preferable to those who need hardpoint mounts. For bikes that don't have "bottlenecks" for attachments. This may be your only option. but for me. I'm a bit disappointed and while I don't plan on returning it, I wouldn't recommend this rack to anyone thinking about buying one. Luckily. It wasn't too expensive. but I will be looking elsewhere for a new rack in the not too distant future.
