Linux bug! on hard drive accessories

Doesn't work on 2 Linux systems: I installed a 1TB WD 750 SSD (5 small screws, no spare SMH.) The system runs Ubuntu, kernel 5.4. Hard disk detected, but disconnected does not determine alignment correctly (65535 never matches) Forced alignment 32M, partition OK, min 1 alignment OK. ext4 format hangs! The log showed errors on this device. After a couple of automatic resets, it mounted flawlessly. The read scan showed no errors, fsck is fine. Moved to another system w. Ubuntu, kernel 5.11. Format error again, then it works but switched to USB2 Speed. Disconnect and reconnect. Read at 444MB/s on USB-C, 350MB/s on USB 3.0. Reconnected to USB-C, now 44M/s. The log indicates that the USB is a high-speed (USB 2) device. I asked about the UAS driver for Linux, I was told that the Asmedia chipset is recognized, but devices without a large capacitor will never be reliable (I don't see any caps big enough to be seen). Smartctl does not read disk temperature behind asmedia nvme chipset, all values are 0 (only support for jmicron nvme chips is mentioned here). The fan moves very little air and sometimes turns on and off quickly. The pad seems too stiff for a non-flat NVME (e.g. a very hot 970plus) but seems to work for a WD 750. The case fits my WD snugly, but may not adjust to a thicker drive without work. Temperature sensor under the window for the fan.
