I first came across these little tools at the library where I work. We call them "polishers" and they help us bind books. They are ideal for squeezing air bubbles out of the contact paper-like coatings we apply and for holding the tapes we use in place. The binders/polishers in the library are made of plastic, and while I can't say why, I prefer the feel of them being made of bone. Anyway, it's a thing of simple beauty and practicality, and I'll enjoy it. This is a small size (we have this size and longer ones in the library) but it's perfect for my home use, where he will help me to make greeting cards. The pointed end helps with the scoring, and then I can press the fold down (along the cutting line) with either the long edge (oblique) or the rounded end. It also helps to press and flatten glued or pasted postcard decorations. I suppose it would be useful for scrapbooking and other craft projects and I'm glad I have it.
