Review on πŸ”‘ Dorman 13737 Keyless Entry Remote 3 Button: OE FIX Compatibility for Select Models by Srivatsan Oling

Revainrating 1 out of 5

I know what Dorman is trying to do with this, but it rarely really works.

First I ordered the right keychain. I used to be a locksmith and programmed these fobs all the time so I know it takes a full laptop sized computer module to connect to the car to access the security system and add a new fob. But as I suspected, you just can't reduce this rather complex procedure to something that can be automatically transmitted from a small box that you plug into the OBD port. It just won't happen, and it didn't happen. I understand what Dorman is trying to do, but it's one of those things where if it works, it's sheer luck. It's prohibitively expensive to go to the dealership to get a new remote and have it programmed, but there's no other option but to spend $140. Maybe a little less if you can find a locksmith with a shop you can actually walk to. Or you can buy a Delco AC key fob, OEM brand GM key fob and take it to the dealer for programming, which can save you a few bucks. If you have a 2006 HHR, new fobs are not user programmable in cases where you do not have other fobs. Don't buy aftermarket key fobs, they can be questionable for programming and their range sucks. I'm sorry, I'm just telling you.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
