Review on πŸ’» Aluminum External Thunderbolt Enclosure by WAVLINK by Robert Berio

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Slower than many HDDs and not very compatible with SSDs.

Tried for the first time with a 2TB Intel NVMe SSD. None of my computers with Thunderbolt 3 ports even saw the drive. One is a DELL Precision 7740 with 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports, the other is a desktop computer with 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports. The Intel SSD has been replaced with a 1 TB Samsung NVMe 960 EVO. Computers could recognize this drive, but transfer rates for large files were around 100 MB/s. I get this kind of performance with hard drives. I don't know what's wrong, but I can't recommend this for compatibility and speed reasons. Update: I ran CrystalDiskMark to better assess performance and posted the result with a screenshot. Reading is fine, but writing is pretty poor for an NVMe drive over Thunderbolt 3, well below advertised performance.

Pros
  • Thunderbolt 3 NVMe m Key, m.2 SSD Enclosure, PCI-Ex4 Support, Test Data (Samsung 970 Evo 250G): Lenovo Thinkpad T470 (x2) Read: 1400+ MB/s, Write: 1500+ MB/s; Not all Thunderbolt 3 computers will run at full x4 speeds, some may be x2.
Cons
  • Doubtful
