I just bought a new record player and of course it came with a felt mat. It didn't take long to realize it wasn't going to cut. They attract dust and can only be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. When you spend a few hundred dollars on a turntable you'd think it would come with a quality mat, but it doesn't. I did a little research to buy a turntable mat. The main options are cork or rubber. Everything I read led me to cork. There are cork rugs for almost half the price. However, I have read many reviews complaining about small pieces of cork breaking off all the time. View defeats the purpose when trying to keep your vinyl clean. All the reviews I read about this brand were positive, so I chose it. It's thin (about the thickness of a felt mat) so it didn't affect the downforce setting. And more importantly, it's well made. Perfectly flat (with a recess in the middle to accommodate the thickness of the label) and with no crumbling pieces. It is definitely worth paying more for a quality rug like this.
