Really powerful air purifier

We bought the Airmega 400 to solve some of the main dust and allergy problems in the home, as well as another layer of protection against viruses and bacteria. We are a family of 3 and no pets. We have a Honeywell F300 (HEPA 13) central electrostatic system (including UV treatment), but we've found that it only works best when the central fan is running at full speed (it's noisy), so it doesn't work . For us. We bought an Airmega to try first but I'll probably add another one. We are located in a newer 2100 SF ranch with 100% hardwood floors and Airmega is located in an outdoor area (kitchen, dining room, family room, solarium) that is 800 SF with high ceilings. This unit is just beautiful for this area! Dust reduced by 90%. We only vacuumed the pre-filter every two weeks and it definitely picked up dust. When our fireplace is lit, it actually disperses the heat well in that area, which is just an incredible comfort. This helped even out the temperature throughout the house. We put it in our bedroom at night (about 400 SF) and it almost eliminated the dust under the bed. My sinus allergy has definitely improved by 90% - basically no stuffy nose and I'm definitely sleeping better as I don't have a stuffy nose at night. The car is almost silent at night when idling. I felt that the "Auto" air cleaning function was useless. Air has to move in order to be filtered. The light is 95% blue (that's why I think the air in our house is generally clean), which means that the device will rarely work in automatic mode! What's the meaning of this? Why buy an air purifier only to have it idle most of the time? It turns purple (probably some dust) when cooking or when you turn on the central heating. It also instantly detects when a candle is burning within 10 feet. Airmega takes about 5 minutes to turn blue again. With a lot of use sometimes the yellow/red lights come on and that clears up very quickly. We mostly leave it on Medium (quiet enough to have normal conversations and watch TV). It completely eliminates all visible dust particles in the air and almost all dust on surfaces such as lamps and tables. Surprisingly, you have to have a working car to achieve this difference in apparent air quality. One more note: We have a Santa Fe Classic commercial dehumidifier with a large 2 inch HEPA 13 filter in my fully finished 2100 SF basement. We use it on fan mode year-round (it's 275 CFM) and the air in the basement is pretty clean, especially during the wet months when the unit is running (I put it on fan mode so the air goes through to clean). . It was my experience with the Santa-Fe that prompted me to try out the Airmega on the main level of the home. Air purifiers (and dehumidifiers) work, no doubt about that. Here's what you should know: after just two weeks of ownership, the "medium" fan speed control stopped working! Revain traded it in for us with no questions asked, but it certainly leaves a very bad taste in my mouth considering the cost and simplicity of the machine. But the car looks and looks good. After all, it's a plastic box with a fan and simple (thin) activated carbon and HEPA 13 filters. There's very little carbon in the filter, but we've found it gets rid of cooking odors. It was beautifully packaged (almost like an Apple iPhone package) and has a slightly upscale and modern feel. I can add another dedicated Airmega unit to our bedroom on the other side of the house. Overall very happy with the car but our initial experience was spoiled by an early ESC failure (early failure is the reason for the 4 stars).

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Makes me nervous
