As there were no reviews for the NetGear PS101 and reviews for other vendors' offerings were quite negative and pitfalls, I expected some trouble at launch. However, an hour after opening the box, the print server was up and running on 4 PCs, 3 running XP and 1 running Win/98. This is much faster than sharing the printer from a "server" PC and print quality is not compromised in any way. The documentation is fairly clear and complete, although a bit misleading as to which port to use due to the use of bold and regular fonts. The management screens are ok, could be a lot better and I can't figure out how to update the firmware if I ever decide to do so. Be careful on a PC with a printer already defined as remote from the "Server" PC. Windows wants to set up the printer as another remote, not "local". This issue is resolved by going directly to the Windows printer definition screens or by deleting the remote definition. If you're using a firewall (e.g. Zone Alarm), make sure you allow access, otherwise nothing will work.
