The cutter leaves marks on the paper

I have a problem with this cutter. The friction of the blade causes graphite or something else to hit my work area and leave marks on my paper and the area around it. I create decks of cards and need a very clean workspace. This becomes a problem.

Not a knife blade it's a thick clean edged handle that pinches to cut. Working well on cardstock.
