Review on Sabrent Type C Aluminum Enclosure EC NVME BLU by Mike Walters

Here he is - I killed a few of them but this guy survived.

Thermal design is a big issue with these things. I have run through 3 other units and this first one passed my test and not only passed but passed with no sign of thermal throttling. The test is to simply mount a 1TB drive and write 1TB to it. Cheaper devices would burn themselves and sometimes the drive if there was no thermal throttling in the drive. This passed with distinction. I've read other reviews about USB-C issues, so I checked that out as well. I have no problem with the USB-C adapter no matter which way I plug it in. It seems to work. I actually confirmed that Gen 2 does indeed run at 10 Gbps. I have to admit I don't understand why the transfer is so slow on these controllers, but given that everything I've tested falls within the same general range and the drive itself can do so much more when plugged directly into the is connected motherboard, I do not think I can do it. Basically, under load (32GB+ file transfer) you can expect read and write speeds somewhere in the 400MB/s range. While it sucks for NVMe, it's great for USB sticks. All those supposed "up to 300MB" drives generally can't even handle 50MB when writing - I've set some of them to 5MB. solves the thermal problem as well as he does. The case looks very well made and tool free. They don't seem to have sacrificed anything by throwing away the tools. Everything fits well and looks good. There is an activity indicator on the box. I would probably try to improve the cooling a bit on the board itself (not the drive) but I can't deny that what they are doing is working. Even under heavy loads, the warm up was never "hot" like the rest. He did a very good job keeping the timings where they should be and everything as expected. This device costs more than many others, but it's money well spent, especially if you don't want to burn anything on the go.
