We have a senior kitty from a local shelter. The only info we were able to garner about her past was summed up in one word - traumatic. Fast forward two years and four cat caves later. About every six months she freaks out and will no longer use her cat cave. Cleaning/washing/pheromone spray makes no difference.when she's done, she's done. I had seen ads for this type of cave (vs ones with structure) and thought I'd give it a whirl. Her favorite place to be is between the toilet and shower wall in our guest bathroom. The ability to shape it, meant I could fit it in the tight space and angle the opening away from the door. This was a theory, but was born out upon receipt. Within two days she was using it full-time and seemed happy as a damaged clam can be. One of the fun, non-disclosed, health issues she came with is being FVR+. Some cats are never phased by it. Others, like ours, have flare-ups that don't necessarily have a trigger. About a week after getting her new cave, I noticed her eyes were starting to do their FVR+ thing so out came her meds to head it off. But this time, it didn't go away, they got worse and swelled shut. She was scratching furiously at both eyes and drawing blood above her eyelids. What. In. The. What. The only thing that had changed was the cat cave. I took it away and her eyes cleared up after a few days. To verify it wasn't a fluke, I put the bed back and the same thing happened. Apparently wool allergies are rare in cats, but our beautiful tropical unicorn has them. So. Now I have this awesome cat bed I can't do anything with. FVR is highly contagious and I can't, in good conscious, return it and risk infecting another kitty. The cat cave itself is super soft and moldable, but sturdy enough it keeps it's shape. Love that it's gray so it hides dust, dirt and whatever else cats drag in. Quality is excellent although when received, it was clearly a return. Packaging was awful - a re-taped bag with holes. It seemed quite cozy up until the eye thing.Side Note: I accidentally bought two.this medium one and a large one. Our indoor/outdoor cat loves the large one and has no allergies or aversion to it. I'll review that one under it's listing.
