This product is very suitable for growing plants and will keep its round shape for a long time. It also doesn't create too much dust in the tank if you rinse it thoroughly before putting it in. However, as they say, it has several disadvantages. First, it's a bit pricey compared to gravel, clay, or sand ($15 to $45 depending on bag size). Second, it's fairly light so it can be difficult to bury some plants initially and it tends to rise to the surface if placed under a more decorative top layer of gravel/sand. This can be a real headache after you've worked so hard to make everything look perfect. It will also sometimes stain light colored natural stones (marble, limestone, etc.) you use around it black! I would also have liked a better description of the ingredients and mineral content. Despite the downsides, you really can't go wrong using this product to grow great aquatic plants.
