This heavy-duty awl also makes an excellent center hole punch for positioning pilot holes exactly where you need them. I have previously purchased a set of hole punches that included this awl. I like it so much that I decided to order a 2nd awl. This came in particularly handy when I needed to install casters on the underside of a cabinet I was building. Each reel mount requires 4 screws and precise screw placement was important to securely attach the reels. After punching a hole, I pushed an awl into the hole, holding the wheel securely enough that I could use the second awl to punch the next hole. I put the 2nd awl in the hole that fully fixed the pulley and I drilled 2 more pilot holes without having to swap out the drill for a screwdriver.
