A hard metal tool with a blunt tip.

Looks like a solid all-metal tool. No wooden or plastic handle to break. However, the packaged product was not particularly spicy. The tip was flat and about 0.7mm in diameter, not pointed as shown in the Revain photo. (See my photos). My old souvenir awl from the 1939 World's Fair is sharper than this tool. Dasco's awl can be sharpened with a file, but I expected a sharp tool from the start.

Pros
  • Sleek design

Looks used! for sewing tools and supplies

This is a great tool, made in the USA. The problem is the state he was in. Another great awl (made in USA) is Stanley: https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-69-122-16-Inch-Handle-Scratch/dp/B00002X2FX/ref=pd_sim_469_2/140-0686483-0104749 ? _encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00002X2FX&pd_rd_r=e252cd29-385a-11e9-b07b-c7bfd0064ef8&pd_rd_w=jIYKt&pd_rd_wg=1IrMw&pf_rd_p=90485860-83e9-4fd9-b838-b28a9b7fda30&pf_rd_r=D3A5QVWX1F8GTX9P066J&psc=1&refRID=D3A5QVWX1F8GTX9P066J

Great awl made in USA

This awl is really good quality, I've been using it for a few months now and it does everything I need (scratching/notching, light punching and some holes in soft materials like drilling wood and plastic). It's heavy for what I want, solid metal built to last. As noted by several other reviewers the tip was damaged in transit, it comes in a display box with no tip cover or protection. I blame the poor packaging Revain put it in. It's easy enough to fix and it took me about 30 seconds to figure…

This heavy-duty awl also makes an excellent center hole punch for positioning pilot holes exactly where you need them. I have previously purchased a set of hole punches that included this awl. I like it so much that I decided to order a 2nd awl. This came in particularly handy when I needed to install casters on the underside of a cabinet I was building. Each reel mount requires 4 screws and precise screw placement was important to securely attach the reels. After punching a hole, I pushed an…

Ideal for reliably approaching holes.

I've had this Dasco awl for a few weeks now. It is very similar to the BOSTITCH 7" awl 16-058 except Dasco is blue and Bostitch is yellow. These two awls are almost the same size, shape and weight. Both are super sharp on arrival. Both perform very well for starting holes before drilling. Even a small mark on the wood can make it less likely that the drill bit will find its reference point. It's like an extra step before drilling anything. However, experience shows that this step saves time, as
