Review on LG 27UK850-W Monitor with FreeSync and Multiple Adjustment Options by Lance Heisler

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well built, great picture, fairly seamless Mac integration

This is the second 27 inch monitor I bought this summer. The first, Lenovo, is usable enough but wasn't fully 4K and had an odd lag when trying to access the app dropdowns and dock. It cost over $100 and came with a simple plastic stand. But suitable for my office on vacation. This LG is an improvement in picture quality (true 4K and good enough for standard office work/zoom calls etc). Its construction is certainly sturdy, with a metal (aluminum?) stand and thin bezel. , even a manual cable lock. No wobble. The ports are conveniently located and clearly visible on the device's white back (yes, it's black on the front, white on the back). It is very well adjustable both up and down, as well as forwards / backwards. It took me a while to figure out the "controls" button: on the back of the bottom edge of the monitor is a small white button that works like some kind of red pointing device in the middle of old Thinkpad laptops. Tap it to turn it on, then push it toward you to access the various control menus (for contrast, brightness, sound, etc.). The only thing I can figure out is how to control the volume of all the monitor's internal speakers from the Mac sound settings or the volume menu. When the monitor is the preferred default sound, the little speaker icon on the Mac turns gray - and you'll have to adjust the volume if necessary with the little white button mentioned above, not the easiest solution if you want to turn down the volume during a phone call or because of differences between the sources. A strange anomaly in the star product. Will probably use my Airfly dongle for external speakers - better sound and handling. But definitely a solid and recommendable purchase for working from home.
