Don't get me wrong, Makita makes great tools, but the extension used in the same case with the longer (2" bits) supplied) is incompatible, and if you try to use one of these longer bits with an extension, they will lock together and cannot be removed (even with a vise. Makita knows this and they just tell you not to replace their bits with their extension (Again, this is the same case with their bits.) The irony is that you can use other manufacturers' 2" bits with their extension and not permanently lock them together. (I've personally done this with a cheap one 2" bit tried). I didn't mind spending money. Note that I'm not specifically numerous e bits, just what I had on hand.) The problem is that there is a ring fitted in the extension which is designed to hold the shorter pieces more tightly in the extension but can still be removed, by pulling hard enough with your fingers. Makita also sells an extension cord separately and has the same design feature, so the same problem occurs when using the 2" bits with the extension cord. However, since other brands don't have this feature with their extensions, you can use Makita's 2-inch bits without them being permanently connected. My experience with this set started with purchasing it from a local store. Store, shortly after I sent them back because one of the bits in the extension was blocked. We tried the new set, noticed the ring, tried the new set and it blocked too. They then decided to take the item off their shelves. and don't sell them until they decide what to do with the problem. Still, it's good value for the number of bits in the kits, so I ordered these from Revain and will just ditch the Makita extension cord and buy one from another manufacturer.
