I wanted to widen the 5/16" hole in the stainless steel wrench to 1/2" and needed the hole to remain perpendicular to the top and bottom of the wrench. Wrench into a vise for a drill press, then with a 1/8" - 1/2" drill bit I was able to do exactly what I wanted in 5 minutes. hand drill! I didn't even sweat. Other black oxide coated HSS, titanium nitride coated HSS, spray painted Chinesium Speed Steel, etc. The step drill bits I've used puff and require a lot of downward pressure to move anywhere, even with a power drill compared to zinc/galvanized Steel. They continuously carve shiny slivers of stainless steel along all the cut edges while I take a sip of beer and turn the vise with one hand. Absurd.
