Review on Planet Bike Gel Pads for Optimal Comfort on Century Rides by Adam Rogers

Look elsewhere for gel steering wheel pads!

I usually like Planet Bike products but this gel is terrible. It sticks to itself and deforms horribly when removed from the plastic backing. It's just too sticky. I have two bikes with Fi'zi:k Gel handlebars. They are much better because they don't warp when removed from the substrate and they don't stick to each other. Therefore, the pads fit correctly on the steering wheel. Now it's true that the Fi'zi:k pads don't cling to the handlebars like the Planet Bike pads do, but when the bar tape is wrapped around them they cling to the handlebars properly and there doesn't feel like a crease under the Tape. Everything is very smooth. And combined with the SRAM Supercork tape, you have a handlebar that's comfortable for any length of ride.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Expensive
