Reconnection problem in case of power failure

Last August I bought and installed an EcoBee 3 in combination with a brand new oven. The block is located in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California where temperatures drop well below freezing at night. This is a home away from home and we've been away for weeks. In the past we have simply set our thermostat at 50 degrees which has avoided freeze pipe problems in the 25 years we have owned this property. For the past few days I've been trying to connect to the thermostat via the internet to check the indoor temperature and kept getting an error message saying my EcoBee isn't connected to Wi-Fi (a few days ago it worked fine is working). weeks ago). ). According to my ISP, my Wi-Fi cable modem/router is working properly. I had a chat session with EcoBee and found out that the device can lose connection and "under certain circumstances" reconnection requires physically unplugging and plugging the device back in. Of course, this requires a physical presence, which is not possible when you are away from home. Apparently EcoBee is working on a firmware fix, but at this point it doesn't look like you can rely on the device to reconnect in the event of a power outage or a power outage that temporarily disables your modem/router.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • I don't like anything about it, everything is fine
