Review on πŸ”§ Efficient OTC 4840 Piston Ring Compressor Set with Convenient Ring Expander Pliers by Joshua Cameron

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I bought it because it seemed like I could use it for different hole sizes and.

I gave this one 2 stars. I bought it because it seemed like I could use it for different hole sizes and put it in a nice handy storage box. Although I had problems with that. I bought the aluminum unpainted as the painted compressor had reviews that the paint would peel off with use. However, these compressors are not polished, they look sandblasted, so the piston with compressed rings was difficult to slide into the bore. I damaged a piston until I found a repair technique. In addition, it is only pinched in the middle with locking pliers (shown in the picture). Because the scraper rings were tighter than my 1st or 2nd ring, it tended to not fully compress at the bottom of the piston, making it difficult to fit the scraper rings into the bore. I bought this thinking it would be easier than a tape compressor (two tapes) but I wish I had bought a tape compressor now. I'm not going to throw this away, but I suspect I'll hate it every time I have to use it. I would not buy this style again.
