I upgraded an old computer to use it for older games and software because the 'new' is Microsoft Fisher Price. I switched from an old 80GB hard drive to an SSD. I upgraded my laptop to an SSD so I thought this might help. Buddy did it. On older machines, the motherboard uses an IDE interface, while newer SSDs use SATA. To make this work, I bought an IDE to SATA converter and hoped the IDE speed wouldn't matter. It turns out there is an effect, but the upside is in read/write speeds. A full virus scan used to take 4 hours, now it's 22 minutes. Loading time has been reduced to less than 1 minute. For those looking to breathe new life into an old computer, and I mean this 2003 machine screams now, here are the components I used: - Sabrent internal hard drive 2.5-3.5 inches. Mount Kit (BK-HDDH) - 120GB SanDisk SSD PLUS SSD (SDSSDA-120G-G26) [Latest Version] - HDE IDE/EIDE/PATA SATA Hard Drive Interface Adapter for PC and Mac - SMAKNโข 22-pin (7+ 15 ) Sata Male Female Combo Data & Power Extension Cable - Slim Sata M/F Extension Cable - 20" (50cm)
