I used to have a front panel SD card reader that connected directly to the motherboard. That being said I had to use an SD to microSD adapter and the speed was great. This device allowed me to connect the microSD directly, bypassing the adapter, so why not. The performance was very poor and at first I thought it was related to the device I bought, but I decided to try the adapter to see what happens. What an incredible difference! The speed is back to what it was with my old card reader on the front. So if you're lacking in performance, use an SD to microSD adapter.
