Review on Smooth 65D Liquid Plastic Casting by Kelsey Brown

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It pours easily. Installed quickly. But be careful with the smoke.

I am very happy with this resin. It sets within half an hour after the start of mixing. It installs slower or faster depending on how hot it gets, and the reaction it experiences during installation generates a significant amount of heat. In practice, this means that thin and small castings will demold in 30 minutes, while thicker and/or large (non-hollow) castings can be cured in 10-15 minutes. It is excellent for rotational molding, which is hollow casting where the mold is rotated while the resin solidifies. Calculate at least 2 layers for rotational molding, and 4-6 for larger objects. It pours and mixes transparently, but produces an opaque white that will heavily affect any colors you mix. In order to get a medium gray I need to add a significant amount of black. Far more than I need for clear resins. For Black, I use Powdered Charcoal - you can get it for free from a half-burned log left over from a fire.

Pros
  • High test results for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
