Review on Coghlans 7945 Sharpening Stone: Ultimate Tool for Precise Blade Sharpening by Ken Arellano

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Large Compact Stone

Awesome whetstone for about $5. It is double sided (coarse and fine) and is great for touch ups in the field and at home. I've found a lot of people complain about small whetstones like these, claiming that their small size makes them useless or too difficult to sharpen. This is true when using the old traditional sharpening method, where you run the blade across the stone as if trying to cut a thin section of stone. That's because you simply won't have enough stone "real estate" to sharpen a blade longer than the stone. Because of this, circular motions are the best technique for small stones. This allows you to sharpen any size blade on any size stone! It's also more sympathetic to stone AND steel. Enjoy!

Pros
  • Absolutely Stunning!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
