In general, this is just a mouse pad. The terms "ergonomics" and the like don't really apply to a thin carpet. The grip on the underside of the mat is good and it doesn't slip at all on the table. The fatal disadvantage, however, is that the outer fabric itself is very non-slip. The Amazon Basics mouse is noticeably more difficult to manipulate than any other mouse pad I have owned. I use this for work and it frustrates me how much slower I have to control my movements to select something accurately when moving the cursor. With other mouse pads, the mouse glides easily, but not with this one. This rug would be TERRIBLE for gaming. I have multiple game consoles and I can't quickly shoot or select things with this tablet. Now that it's cheap I don't mind throwing it in the trash. Waste of money, look elsewhere.
