This is a beautiful coat with a really warm design without adding bulk. Depending on the style and length, it can look casual or more elegant. Note that my daughter just turned nine and wears size 10 shirts and size 8 jeans, oversized leggings and sweatpants (Target Cat and Jack). She's a little slim and a little above average for her age, but overall a 'typical height' 9-year-old girl. First I bought a medium size thinking that 10/12 will help us survive next winter. nope The coat just fits her. So if in doubt, rate it. The large has a bit of room to grow so she can wear it lengthways and still have room for her favorite hoodie for the next 2020-2021 school year.
