8/14/19 - Update: Replaced the Lutron defective switch that was originally installed and described earlier. The new one is functioning well. it’s programmable and operational as advertised. Will be keeping an eye on it for a while and need to see if it loses programming settings after a power failure. It it performs well, will then purchase additional units.———-8/3/19 - I had always thought Lutron switches were of good quality and reliability. This switch is very disappointing. It is either a defective unit or it is a poorly engineered product. The enclosed instructions are exceedingly inadequate for achieving the customer’s understanding of the programming steps. for example: the switch’s green lights do not behave accordingly in the same manner as set out in the programming procedure instructions. The instructions are too brief, nor well thought out, with insufficient detail and explanation for guiding the customer along. One simply can’t tell if the malfunction is due to failing to follow instructions correctly or simply a defective switch. I’m left feeling like the switch came with the wrong programming instructions, or broken! I’ve tried programming it about 25 times and still unable to set it to function as advertised. I’ve followed the instructions carefully, I’ve visited the Lutron website for additional instructions, I’ve watched YouTube videos. and yet this switch will not program, and it does not operate as advertised. Even worse. this switch turns on the lights automatically every night and every day (while the sun is shining) and always when there is no one in the room, and worse it lights up the bulbs at 100% brightness intensity (regardless of dimmer setting), and it doesn’t shut off the lights automatically. So I’m constantly checking that room. because this switch is wasting electricity. It’s doing the exact opposite of what it’s supposed to be doing. The only way to stop this switch from repeating this sequence daily, is to remove it.
