If you have a small child opening doors, save yourself the heartache and sound the alarm.

I have a 2 year old son. A few days ago I slept in my bed with my son. The husband went to work and it was 9 a.m. After working a 16-hour shift the night before, I was exhausted. I woke up and saw that my son was still sleeping next to me, so I went back to sleep. I woke up again (I don't know how long later) and he was gone. I thought he should be in his room. He was not. Living room? He was not. backyard, kinda? He wasn't there, but the fence was open. He knows I let our dog through that door and must have opened it to let him out (how he opened it I don't understand for a two year old). He wasn't even in our house. I couldn't find him, he was pacing up and down my block in my bathrobe screaming his name. After feeling like my world was slowly moving towards me forever, I finally saw our dog come out from behind the neighbor's house and my son chased after him, holding a random item from their yard. Now I'm pretty damn sure that nothing like this will ever happen again. I bought an alarm and chain locks to put up. I wasn't sure if they would work since my doors don't close flush, but with a little ingenuity I was able to get them to work. Of course they are loud. I'll know as soon as someone opens one of the doors. There is a variant of the bell that sounds like you've just entered a store, BUT VERY LOUD. They are small and very easy to install.
