I bought this clock with LCD display and temperature thermometer to fit my 'Custom' 1995 GMC pickup truck. I installed/glued the block to the top of the rear view mirror frame. I was delighted and pleased with the installation and the look, it took me over a day to install. I had to remove the mirror assembly from the windshield and glue it to the top of the mirror frame. My joy was short-lived, however, as disappointment gave way when I finally electronically connected the device to the truck. I professionally wired this unit to my truck and took the extra steps of routing the sensor to the front inner bumper (between the frame and bumper) and connecting the power to the ignition key. I wanted the device to turn on automatically when the key was in the "on" position. During installation, I noticed that the supplied wiring was of very cheap quality. If you look at the picture you will see that the sensor cable is not designed to run outside or inside the engine compartment. For example, the sensor and the core of the power cable were very thin, a bit brittle, and there were few cores, only about 5 or 6 cores; Not suitable for underhood heat treatment or for work alone on a vehicle frame. To fix this I soldered an all weather car wire and soldered the end of the sensor that goes to the bumper to the new wiring and did the same to the opposite end that connects to the back of the LCD. The soldering was very difficult due to the poor quality brittle wiring, but I managed it. Look at the picture and you can see how small the wiring is for this sensor block and power supply. I updated the wiring for both the power supply and the sensor. Functionally, after my update, the device measures the outside temperature well and accurately, but the inside temperature is very different. I've also noticed that both the outside and inside temperature readings seem to creep up when you're at a stoplight. This is probably typical but very accurately shows the outside temperature when the car is moving. In addition, the voltmeter is very useful and accurate. However, one of my biggest disappointments with this device is that it's difficult to see the display on a sunny day. Also, the product ad claims you can switch between the two colors; Green and blue. It is not true. The device only toggles between blue and brown (or rustic orange). The only color visible during the day is rustic brown. The blue display is not visible in daylight and visibility is not very good at night. Please note that the blue display image was taken around 5:30 p.m., about 20 minutes before sunset. This was the only time I could see the blue display. Forget about switching the display to blue in the middle of the day in the sun. You can only see this device on the brown display during the day as the blue color is not visible. The fact is that the manufacturer should change the advertising so that the blue color is visible only at night, and the device backlight is blue-brown. NOT BLUE, but GREEN. In the end I was very disappointed with this product. Wiring quality was poor, not suitable for automotive wiring, showing only blue and brown (NOT BLUE and GREEN) and poor visibility in sunlight. Over time I'll probably need to replace it with a better quality LCD unit, but now that I've taped the unit to the rear view mirror I shouldn't have to bother removing it. UPDATE: Having driven this unit for 3 months I have had no issues with the unit in terms of functionality and the backup lithium battery which keeps time when the truck is off still shows a full charge. In short, this block is holding up well, but I think that's only after I've updated the wiring.
