Works worse than a razor blade

I bought this product to remove old sealant. It has a few design flaws that prevent it from working. Firstly, you can see from the first photo that the blade is flat. Compare this to the saw blade (different brand) in the second photo which is offset. The purpose of the offset is so you can keep the blade flat against the surface while still leaving room for the hex screw that attaches the blade to the oscillating tool. Because this blade is flat, you must hold the tool at a slight angle and bend the blade to use it. After about 15 minutes of use, the blade will tear at the bend - look closely at the first photo and you will see a semi-circular tear enclosing the two central retaining slots and extending into two adjacent slots. The blade is actually not a blade at all, but a sheet of steel with a blunt, rectangular edge. Thus it does not slip under the sealant. Instead, it pushes against the edge of the seal until you've got a gummy mush in the corner that you can scrape off with a razor blade. It's actually a lot easier to use a razor blade to begin with as the razor blade slides under the seal and lifts it rather than pushing into the crack. I tried sharpening this "blade" on a grinder but I couldn't get the blade as sharp as a razor blade so that didn't work either. If, like a razor blade, these "blades" cost pennies each and come in a pack of ten and are indeed sharp, then they should have been used until they break and then replaced with a new, sharp one. But at $10.99 each, it's a waste of time and money.

Pros
  • Flexible blade ideal for scraping light materials
Cons
  • Safety
