Review on πŸ”Œ Curt 51180 Proportional Brake Controller: Enhanced with Bluetooth Connectivity by Scott Koeck

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It's not perfect, but damn close.

We got this controller for our Lexus so we didn't have to install anything in the car. The idea was perfect. The item arrived on time and was very easy to assemble. Like no more than 10 minutes to read and follow the very intuitive instructions. The app worked flawlessly on my iPhone. On road. The app on the phone made it quick and easy to set the sensitivity and prime it for the long ride. I would say it brakes as well or better than the in-cabin controller I used in my Subaru. We drove 7 hours on the Yakima and Wenatchee Cascades. No problem. But on the way back we had problems. So it happened that the controller turned off and fell on the highway. It's good that the application notices this and warns you. After we turned to pick him up, he was already run over by a truck. I was angry at myself and Kurt. The connection is really weak and the pair of pins the controller hangs on isn't as reliable as I was hoping. My mistake was trusting the connection and walking away without really gluing it together. In any case. We drove a 3500lb trailer through the mountains for over 7 hours with no trailer brakes. Thank goodness for Lexus brakes! called 911 and told them what had happened. They asked for photos and we sent them. A few days later we heard from them and they offered to replace the broken controller. I did not expect this. I would say Kurt went above and beyond to provide us with a new controller. He arrived a few days ago and was happy because we can take him on another trip. This time we will definitely use duck tape!
