I bought these for kitchen cabinets. I have a cat that opens the bottom closet doors every day. I've seen them advertised to "keep them out". However, this is not the case. I have installed them in different ways from different sites and he can still open them very easily. I even pulled everything out of the cabinets to see if the panel was properly attached to the magnet. How it is. I ended up having the brilliant idea of installing maybe 2 of these on the same door. It has hardly improved him and he can still open it. I easily opened the door with my fingernails on my index and middle fingers. If you're looking for a strong magnet to deter animals from opening it, look for a stronger magnet. These will not. Not even two. I'm only giving it two stars because it's able to keep the closet door closed if that's what you're looking for.
