Save time: cartridges

I was replacing an old Moen 1225 cartridge in a Moen Monticello kitchen faucet. The original faucet and cartridge were installed 10 years ago and the cartridge is stuck due to corrosion. First I tried to remove the cartridge with a vise. It didn't work so I sprayed some WD40 inside the case. I also tapped the body with a hammer and tapped the top of the cartridge with a hammer and a flathead screwdriver. The cartridge did not come out. So I googled how to remove a stuck cartridge and luckily found a youtube video of a plumber using this tool to remove a stuck cartridge. Using the tool, I was able to remove the stuck cartridge in 5 minutes (including the 3 minutes I spent figuring out how to use the tool). Also note that when I put a new cartridge in, I had to turn it slightly counter-clockwise. to center it. Instead of pulling the cartridge out I just gently rotated it with the tool as I had lost the plastic adjustment tool that came with the new cartridge. If I couldn't remove the old cartridge I would buy a new one. new faucet. The cost of a new comparable faucet is $350-$450. Plumbing $325. Good savings on repairs instead of replacing the faucet. With any luck, the new cartridge and handle adapter I installed should add another 5-10 years to the life of the faucet.
