Review on πŸ’» Fractal Design Core 1000 USB3 BL Computer Case by Marklen Baeskens

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Set up our entire office on these occasions, here are my thoughts.

Firstly I don't see that I bought this case as the ones I bought from Revain are an older variant which only supports USB2. The new version is USB 3 and wasn't available from Revain when I got mine so they were bought from this egg store. Anyway I have about 12 old versions of USB 2 and about 18 of this version. Anyway I've now used both versions of this case, I've built about 30 new machines for my office with this case and overall I'm very happy with this case. There are some minor issues and it's far from perfect, but for the money I've never been happier with a budget case. I used standard ATX motherboards and standard CPU coolers for i5 processors. There's room for larger CPU coolers and the like, and the cooling was great for our usual purposes. The case is quiet, looks good in the office and was easy to put together when it came to implementation. I like the removable hard drive tray on the side, it's unusual but works really well. I used all the SSDs and they mounted easily. The overall build went great with no space issues in my base builds. Cons - this is a short list of what I found or noticed. Remember, I've been through about 30 cases like this. so that they were found among everyone, and not in one case! I found that in three cases the power button on the side of the front panel is missing. The button itself was up and working, there was no cover. I found one in the box, the other two were missing completely. Two of them had a bad connector for audio, not HD, one for a secondary AC97 connector. One wasn't there at all, the other had two wires disconnected from the connector. This wasn't a problem for me as I didn't use the AC97 connector anyway, all other case ports were fine for all connections. The body is light which is good, the metal is thin at the bottom and can 'pop' if you put it on its feet. . It's okay, and I like the light, but be aware that it could very well happen, or at least be possible. I would say half of me has it, I don't really think it's a problem but thought I'd mention it for others. The only other issue is that the fan on the front only has three pins, it works fine on four pins. Connection, but it only works at the set speed. It's silent so not a problem but I'd like to control it on the MB side. The only real downside is that you better have canned air on hand as it will definitely pick up dust from the front! That means the filter is working, which is good. Finally three or four of them had a motherboard stand which was difficult to install, the stand was fine but the hole in the MB tray wasn't quite right. I made them all work, but some were really tough. In the end I am still very satisfied with the money spent and the quality received. I've worked on many computer cases and have had many more serious problems than the ones I mentioned above. I don't think I've ever cut myself working on this case, which is a plus, I've bled every time I've worked on a cheap case! I would use this computer case at home and that's saying a lot as I'm usually a snob for my home computers. Of course there are better ones, but you will spend more! EDIT - I just bought 3 more of these cases and this time they were cheaper at Revain than the other store I bought them from before. Anyway I'm still very happy with these cases, lucky enough I've just bought a few more so I can produce machines for more new hires. I haven't had any crashes with these cases so far, the fans work and the buttons or something is messed up. I had a USB port on the side, but if you kick the USB stick on the side of the port like the employee did, it's definitely not the case's fault!

Pros
  • Pretty package
Cons
  • I don't remember
