Good KVM, an annoying problem.

I chose this for my desktop to replace another 4 port KVM. The old KVM I was using had a lot of problems connecting to a Mac and a PC at the same time. When both were connected, input on the Mac was delayed and often lost, rendering KVM unusable. I've used other StarTech.com hardware in the past and was generally happy with it, so decided to give it a try. The result, while not perfect, is much better than the old KVM I had. I currently have KVM connected to my home desktop, current generation Mac mini, Chromebox, and previous generation Mac mini. Using this KVM I have had no problems entering data into any of these machines. Another problem my old KVM had and it has nothing to do with the monitor resolution. Usually when I booted a machine that wasn't selected to KVM, the machine ended up with a low resolution like 800x600. So when I switched to the machine I had to fiddle around to set the correct resolution. With this StarTech, all computers boot at whatever 1080p resolution the monitor supports, so I don't have to fiddle with the settings to get things looking right. It just works. (And in my opinion, "it just works" is the highest praise one can give KVM.) However, it's not perfect. About 1 in 20-30 toggles I find myself in a weird state where the correct computer appears on the screen but the keyboard and mouse don't work. It also happens more often when you switch between devices quickly. However, in the vast majority of cases, this can be fixed by switching to a different computer, making sure the keyboard and mouse work there, and then switching back to the computer you want to work on. It's annoying (that's why I only gave 4 stars), but it's bearable. One thing for people who don't buy KVM very often. This KVM does NOT come with the cables that you actually need to connect. This has been the case with most KVMs I've bought and used in my life. So make sure you have the cables or order them. Also note that the DVI connectors on this KVM are VERY close together. Therefore, when buying a cable, make sure that no excess material is left on the edges of the connector. If the plastic on the connector sticks out too far past the edge of the screw connections, it probably won't fit. My old KVM had connectors that had some plastic behind the screw terminals and barely fit. However, you will have a hard time squeezing a piece of paper in between. That's how close they are. Also can't comment on how well the audio or 4 port hub works as I haven't used them. But my Microsoft Natural 4000 keyboard and my Logitech M510 (wireless) mouse work fine with this KVM. Overall I think this is a very reliable KVM for the money.
