Painted with this vintage van. I had no problems with that at all. It worked great for my needs. The tape adhered well and the plastic was "just" thick enough to keep paint smudges from getting onto surfaces I didn't intend to apply them to. The plastic is very thin, but not so thin that it rips or tears when lowered. The real problem with its thinness is how easily even the slightest breeze can affect its position or cause it to tip over and stick to whatever you've just drawn. However, this problem is very easy to solve, just attaching it to the ground with some tape here and there. So this stuff works really well with a touch of common sense mixed into the process. For the price, it really can't be beat in terms of convenience and time savings.
