Moved to a new house in April this year. We brought a washer and dryer that we used in our former home. They never caused water hammer at the previous location. In a new home, the washer and dryer, the toilet, or even the sink faucets create water hammer that echoes throughout the house. I installed two of these traps directly on the washing machine, one each on the hot and cold water lines. They were unable to stop or even slightly mitigate the water hammer when the machine closed its valves. They were mounted directly on the machine, with the silver chamber facing perpendicular to the ceiling. Absolutely useless.
