Wow, I thought my new lamp was defective when I turned it on. It's really flimsy compared to the fluorescent hood I replaced. I thought maybe it would get lighter after a few minutes but it stayed just as dark as before. But then I noticed that my red-nosed tetras started swimming to other parts of the tank, which they had never done before. Their noses also turned bright red, which was a rare occurrence. I read about them briefly and found that they like dim lighting. So maybe bright light is meant for our human eyes, but Pisces likes a little less than a scorching sun. If a dimmer light makes a Pisces happier and more confident in their area, so be it.
